Hi everyone! New real blog post coming later this week, but I wanted to link to an article about Family Support Network in this week’s Mountain Xpress, an independent publication in Asheville and Western North Carolina. I’m included in the piece.
I have several formal roles with FSN — trainer, support parent, chair of the advisory council (the “chair” part of which really just means I occasionally sign a document or two), and a just-ended stint as the facilitator of the parent group — but for this piece I was simply speaking as a parent.
If the quotes and surrounding text don’t sound exactly like me (for one example, really, I never dreamed of Nicholas growing up to be like me — I’ve always hoped he can do a lot better than that, and he has), well, that’s always part of participating in any media coverage — and I used to be a reporter. Ms. Wilkins does a fine job of highlighting and publicizing the Family Support Network of Western North Carolina and the good work this organization does for special-needs children and their families, and hopefully this piece will help spread the word about the resources it offers.
